My Favorite Reads of 2024!

Hello, everyone!

I'm a little late with this, but I wanted to share my five favorite books I read in 2024. The latter half of last year was a bit of an eye-opener for me. I decided to set aside more time for myself and the things I loved to do. A big part of that was reading more. I went back to books that made me feel good. I diversified my reading habits. I jumped into new genres. That's the energy I am carrying into this new year.

That being said, let's dive into the five books that topped my list last year!

Hana Khan Carries On by Uzma Jalaluddin

Rating: 4.00

Twentysomething Hana Khan is torn between her desire to host her own radio show and helping her family keep their halal restaurant afloat in the face of an approaching rival. As she struggles with balancing her sense of loyalty to her immigrant parents' sacrifices with her ambitions, she begins to question her own goals and perspectives. While full of heart and witty humor, the author boldly delves into themes such as religion and racism.

Risky Restoration by E.F. Dodd

Rating: 4.00

On a trip to deal with unresolved feelings for her ex and finding an instant spark with a handsome, tattooed stranger, Kez Walsh is having a helluva time. Thank goodness she has a couple of best friends to keep her head and heart pointed towards happiness. This was such a steamy, fast-paced, and fun read. I can't wait to check out more from the author.

The Dead Won't Tell
by S.K. Waters
Rating: 4.25

When historian-turned-journalist Abbie Adams is assigned the responsibility of researching a cold-case murder from 1969, she never expects to find herself at the center of a devastating chain of events that threatens to tear her little community apart. A compelling protagonist, a captivating mystery, and an unexpected twist all contribute to a near-perfect novel. If you enjoy mystery thrillers, this one comes highly recommended.

19 Love Songs by David Levithan
Rating: 4.75

This was the first book I picked up in 2024, and it could not have been a better choice. Levithan's collection examines the highs and lows of love from every angle. Queer love, first crushes, beautiful friendships, and parental affection are represented in an impressive variety (the comic strip story is particulary special). Love, whether simple and timeless or difficult and fleeting, leaves an imprint on every story, word, and song.

The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston
Rating: 5.00

Clementine, closed off from love and grieving the death of her beloved aunt, finds herself trapped in an endless cycle of work and more work. When she awakens to the sight of a stranger standing in her late aunt's "magical" apartment, she believes she is going crazy. Especially when she learns that the charming man lives seven years in the past while she lives seven years in the future. This quickly became my new favorite comfort book, thanks to its endearing characters and the premise that life and love van change us for the better. If you only read one of the books on this list, make it this one!
